If you had unlimited resources, what would you research?

Hello All,

Thank you so much for your responses. After reading everyones thoughts, mainly the similarities and differences, I started to think if you had resources to research a particular topic, what would that research topic be?

As many researchers know, they have limitations to what and how they can conduct their research. Put yourself in a researchers position and assume that you have no limitations such as funding for your research.

  1. My grand mother used to talk about how her siblings lived back home in certain communities where the food was home grown and nutritious. Health problems were very rare and if it did happen it would have been when they were very old. She lived a certain lifestyle and when coming to Canada it all changed. I want to do a research study on her, where did it all go wrong when coming to one of the "best" countries in the world? Why are some Canadians more malnourished than many people in third world countries?

  2. Like Tiana, I think a lot about how things have changed since my parents have come to Canada more than 20 years ago. As a Canadian born woman of colour, I feel like there is not the same sense of community in Toronto that my parents describe from their childhood. As an educator, I also see my students struggle with feeling a sense of community within the classroom and the school population. If I had unlimited funds and resources, I would examine how community is conceptualized in Toronto and how this varies from community to community. Ultimately the goal of my research would be to create a theoretical framework which describes key elements of healthy, sustainable communities. This research would be especially beneficial in GTA, where people come from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  3. I would do research on healthy eating. I know it is the big topic now a days but it has always been an issue. There are generations who are passing on geans that may leave children more prone to bad health factors. Most people only care about health when it hits "close to home" so I would connect my research on this with education, work place, and the home. And with unlimited resources I would do it in a movie similar to "Super size me"

  4. I honestly don't know what I would research, I think it might have to do animals. They are so much apart of our world that many people take it for granted. How much of an influencial relationship would we have with animals? I would refer to wild animals and not the domesticated ones. Maybe this would lit me to doing research on a community that is not in the city?

    1. Hey Whitney, As I am sitting next to you (lol) I think that your research topic is a hobby that many would want to do based out of interest and having fun with it. I would feel more of an obligation to do research on the messed up school system we have. If I have no limitations meaning that I can do as much research as I want in the school then I would focus on teaching and the relationship between student and teachersl how "influencial" can it be? What role does the curricculum play in the down fall of many students we know? I would love to also do research on something nature related but I would feel that I am doing an injustice to myself and who I can impact through this research.

    2. I think we should do a research topic on what we feel, rather than what we "should" be doing because society is expecting us to take on a certain role based on how we identify ourself. Should all students from particular communities be obligated to do a study based on their community needs or something else? Having that obligation also be your interest is a win win situation. I could imagine the conflict some feel when addressing that choice.

  5. My research would be on the "family relationship" I think that all concerns such has health or even as far as classroom engagement all steams from the home. I would first define what is a family, then do a study on about 12 different types of families that range from age, class, race, etc. It would be a comprehensive study that would follow them for a few years. Like it says "It's all in the family"
